How
We Began

Khenpo Tenzin Norgey noticed
that many Dharma students had questions about their sick and
dying animal friends. He was touched by the way Americans regard
their pets as family. One student was particularly concerned
about her pet wolf-dog who was dying. Khenpo advised her on the
most beneficial practices and supports she could offer during
this difficult time.
When the wolf peacefully passed
away, the student wanted to honor her beloved friend in an auspicious
Buddhist Tradition. Khenpo, being from Bhutan where Satsa Houses
are in every village, decided that we should all learn the Satsa
Puja and build the first Animal Satsa House. During a seven-day
retreat, Khenpo guided about 20 students in not only the Satsa
Puja, but in the actual design and building of the House. The
Satsa House and the first Satsa Puja were sponsored by the family
of the wolf, another dog friend's family and the students.
We hope to build a Satsa House
for the ashes of our human friends and family in the future.
